Van Doren Waxter's booth will showcase collage works by artists Rosemarie Beck, Richard Diebenkorn, Louise Fishman, Sonia Gechtoff, Vera Molnár, Alan Shields, and Jack Tworkov. These artists have incorporated collage in their artistic practice as a method of refreshening their relationship to imagery, figurative or abstract, through engaging with material that encourages types of handling that are different from the traditional holding and moving of a paintbrush. As we celebrate these artists for their masterful use of paint and construction of imagery, it is meaningful to see their works that reflect the deliberate lack of control, surrender to the decisions of the material, as well as openness to surprise during the process of making.
