Eleven Rivington is pleased to present new solo exhibition of works by Michael DeLucia, on view from April 29 through June 2, 2012. The artist's second solo exhibition with the gallery will feature new sculptural works using the artist's signature vernacular of construction / mass production materials.

DeLucia begins the development of his sculptural objects on a computer screen as pure virtual forms in three dimensions. The volumes—tilted planes, cylinders, cubes—are then flattened; a numerical-control router then carves the contours of the virtual volume onto a painted plywood surface. The depth of the carved line accommodates not only the dimensionality of the shape but of the wood itself—like an imperfect sheet of photographic paper, the warps, bows and varying densities within the wood generate a "print" which engages the illusory depth of the virtual image, the physical depth of the flattened image in relief, and the depth of the readymade material in space. 

For this exhibition, DeLucia eliminates color as a governing principle—the only paint used is hunter green—a color used at construction sites to erase/camouflage a temporary structure. The color is a stand-in for the ethereal virtual space surrounding the latent volumes as seen on the computer screen. Serialized, modulating objects—both freestanding and in the context of existing and modified architecture—will span two venues in DeLucia's most ambitious site-specific project to date.
