Greenberg Van Doren Gallery is pleased to present Palette, a group exhibition of recent work by international emerging artists, on view from July 12 – August 18, 2006. Palette is primarily about color and how artists develop very personal and idiosyncratic chromatic sensibilities. The show will include figuration, landscape, and abstraction, as well as text-based work. Each artist will be represented by multiple works to illustrate his or her individual palette. The exhibition is organized by artist and curator Augusto Arbizo, and will present new painting and sculpture by young artists from Tehran, Munich, Vienna, Miami, San Francisco, and New York.

An interior by Pierre Bonnard. A Giorgio Morandi still life. Roy Lichtenstein’s pop comics. As much as subject matter, personal history, and selected medium, color plays an important and primary role in the way artists conceptualize and realize their work. Factors such as cultural background, geographical light, chosen subject, and material pigmentation affect idea and process in varying degrees. With formal rigor and intuitive sense, the artists in Palette convey atmosphere and temperature with color, allowing it to carry formal and psychological presence. The works presented range from the fantastical and playful to darker and somber tones.
