Malerie Marder: Because I Was Flesh
-
Overview
Solo exhibition
Lawrence Rubin · Greenberg Van Doren · Fine Art is pleased to present an exhibition of new photographs by Malerie Marder. The exhibition, entitled Because I Was Flesh, will be on view from May 17 – June 10, 2000. This will be the L.A. based artist’s first one-person exhibition.
The exhibition will include medium (28 x 36 inches) and larger scale (40 x 50, 48 x 60 inches) color photographs. The works fictionalize the artist desires, employing family and friends as subjects and models. Shot in private homes and hour ‘sex’ motels in the Los Angeles area, these photographs have the artificial concentration of film stills. Intense hues punctuate these highly charged works, which have been enhanced by digital manipulation.
The exhibition will be accompanied with a full color catalogue with text by Bruce Wagner. Malerie Marder received her BFA from Bard College and her MFA from Yale University. The artist’s work was included in the exhibition Another Girl, Another Planet and her photographs have been featured in The New York Times Magazine and The New Yorker, among others. -
