Jin Young Jeong: In Dialogue with Richard Diebenkorn: 3rd Floor

Van Doren Waxter is pleased to announce a joint presentation of paintings and works on paper by Jin Jeong and Richard Diebenkorn at the gallery’s 23 E 73rd Street townhouse’s 3rd floor gallery. The two artists create abstracted landscapes where geographic subjects become gateways to gravity, expansiveness, and contemplative space. Through her eloquent oil paintings on linen, Jeong engages in a profound dialogue with formal elements, crafting artworks that evoke tangible reactions. These images embody a purpose that offer immersive moments. Within her abstract landscapes, a deliberate one-point perspective imbues a serene, intrinsic energy. Layers of color, tone, and brushwork, both delicate and bold, blend seamlessly in a symphony of transparency and opacity—diverse abstract languages that mirror the depth of her consciousness. Like Diebenkorn, the two artists form their abstract landscapes through sweeping fields of color, overlapping and intertwining to create a meditative viewing experience. Jeong's creations invite viewers to explore the boundless realm of sensation and emotion.

About the artist

Jin Jeong (b. 1993, Seoul, South Korea) is a painter based in New York, NY. Jeong received an MFA from Hunter College in 2022, and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017. She has had solo exhibitions at Half Gallery, NY (2023) (2022); Long Story Short LA, LA (2022); FAS, Seoul, South Korea (2021). Her work has been featured in Purple Magazine, Artmaze Magazine, Whitehot Magazine, New American Painting, Voyage Chicago, and Friend Of the Artist (FOA).
