The work of Jerónimo Elespe (Madrid, 1975) occupies a space where silence, time, and contemplation intertwine. Through a series of paintings created specifically for the CAAC with a slow and iterative process, the artist transforms the everyday and domestic into an almost liturgical experience. His works are not immediately apparent: they require a close and attentive gaze, inviting reflection and pause.
Layers, glazes, and repetitions transform each piece into a palimpsest where time accumulates. Gardens, rooms, unlit lamps, and open books appear as silent atmospheres. Architecture and objects serve as frameworks for reflecting on the relationship between interior and exterior, light and shadow, presence and absence.
His painting engages with Spanish tradition, especially with the seriousness of Zurbarán, and with contemporary practices linked to repetition and introspection.
