Artemis Greenberg Van Doren Gallery is pleased to present a thematic group exhibition titled Linger, on view from June 13 - July 26, 2002. The exhibition is co-organized by Sima Familant and Augusto Arbizo.

Linger is a multi-generational group exhibition of artists’ works which have a consciousness of the outdoors, natural environments and summertime sensibilities. Including painting, photography, sculpture, functional objects, and video, the works in the exhibition invoke the possibility for the viewer to sit, observe and linger.

Three-dimensional works featured in the exhibition include Joe Andoe’s Birdbath; Gedi Sibony’s sculpture of found natural materials; Sze Lin Pang’s outdoor flag and flagpole; a botanical-inspired ‘screen’ by George Sugarman; and a ‘weed’ sculpture by Tony Matelli. Jason Rhodes contributes a park bench and Jennifer Bartlett a new picnic table. The summer night is celebrated in Dorothea Rockburne’s painterly and mathematical observation of astronomy, while Richmond Burton’s literally illuminates with his Rose Lanterns. Phosphorescent moths at night are the subject of Susan Jennings video taken at Monet’s Giverny garden, while the garden itself is the inspiration of Roy Lichtenstein’s Waterlilies with Reflection. Suzanne Caporael will be represented by a work from a new series of paintings on the subject of estuaries. And nature is further alluded to in Jim Hodges photograph of trees and Alex Katz’s and Fairfied Porter’s summer landscapes.
